Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse) will be present in the operating room for all cardiovascular surgical cases prior to the start of the case, unless otherwise instructed by the attending surgeon.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
The Advanced Practice Provider will assist the CVOR staff and anesthesiologists in the preparation of the patient.
Acts as advanced resource or lead worker in a surgical setting.
Assists on cardiac surgical cases as designated by the surgeons.
Remains with the patient at completion of the operation to transfer and transport the patient to the CVICU.
Remains with the patient in the CVICU until cleared by the surgeons and/or intensivists.
Maintains call responsibility and able to respond on site within 30 minutes.
Participates in certain aspects of clinical research as designated by the surgeons.
Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on patients.
Assists in providing care for patients receiving surgery; writes appropriate orders, including those for perioperative orders.
Writes and/or dictates progress notes on patient charts indicating patient status and treatment or procedures performed.
Performs emergency life-saving procedures in cases such cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar catastrophe.
Performs daily rounds independently or with attending physicians and/or students.
Operates with the highest degree of independence in provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision and generally in a highly specialized area.
Performs under supervision of medical staff member as a physician-extender.
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education/Training Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program or advanced practice registered nurse program.
Licensure/Certification Current Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure in State of Florida renewed every two years.
Maintains BLS/Healthcare Provider.
ACLS and PALS certifications as required by patient population.
Experience Three (3) years of experience in the surgical setting as an advanced practice provider for a cardiothoracic surgeon.
