The Patient Care Technician, acting as an Activity Assistant for Long Term Care, assists the Recreational Therapist with activities, stimulation, and educational programs for residents, using communication skills to encourage participation. Responsibilities also include assisting with nursing care, resident/family teaching, and maintaining unit standards.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. A valid Driver's License and Chauffeur's License are required, with the latter needed within one month of hire, alongside passing fingerprinting and DMV checks.
The Patient Care Technician (Activities Assistant for Long Term Care) is a trained individual, responsible for assisting the Recreational Therapist with activities, stimulation, and educational programs for residents on Long Term Care and is directly responsible to the Recreational Therapist of Long-Term Care. He or she uses good communication skills to motivate residents to help them gain interest and participate in activities. The Activity Assistant assists with nursing care for all Long-Term Care Residents, participates in resident and family teaching, and works in cooperation with ancillary nursing staff to maintain the standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
