This role provides oversight for waived, moderate, and provider-performed microscopy testing, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards across point-of-care testing and the Regional Laboratory Rockville. Responsibilities include developing and monitoring laboratory programs, conducting site visits, analyzing quality data, and presenting findings for process improvement.
Candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Technologist in a clinical laboratory, along with two years of experience using personal computers, spreadsheets, and relational databases. A required education includes an Associate degree in a relevant science or completion of an equivalent military medical laboratory training course.
Provides oversight of the performance of waived, moderate and provider performed microscopy testing performed by clinical staff within the clinical area (point of care testing) of the medical center, all complexity of testing performed at the Regional Laboratory Rockville as and the glucose monitoring program. Ensures all processes and procedures are in compliance with Kaiser Permanente, federal, state and local regulatory and accreditation standards. Coordinates and monitors competency training and proficiency testing for the point of care labs and Regional Laboratory Rockville. Assists Laboratory Quality Systems and Resource Utilization Manager with issues related to Laboratory Quality Systems and Programs.
Develop, implement and monitor laboratory programs and processes for testing labs. Provide consultative services to clinical and laboratory staff. Ensure compliance by conducting routine and regular site visits. Provide status reports to the Clinical Area Supervisor, Laboratory Quality Systems Manager, Area Laboratory Mangers, Regional Laboratory Manager, Medical Director and/or Regional Director. Analyze/evaluate various reports, including unusual occurrence reports, internal variance reports, clinical staff members concerns, proficiency testing, and quality control data. Identify and implement mechanisms for process improvement at point of care labs. Present findings and action plans to Regional Laboratory Service Quality meetings. Coordinate and monitor regulatory compliance; includes yet not limited to CLIA and Maryland (as appropriate) licenses and CAP accreditations. Coordinate and monitor participation and compliance of Labs with proficiency testing program.
Two (2) years of experience as a Medical Technologist (MT) in a clinical laboratory. Knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements. Affiliation with professional organizations. BS or BA Degree in Medical Technology or related field.
