Physical Therapists fulfill patient, family, and community needs by providing Physical Therapy services according to licensure and regulatory requirements, serving as experts in functional mobility and rehabilitation. They are key stakeholders in patients’ functional recovery and interdisciplinary discharge planning within an academic medical center.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in physical therapy, though a Master’s degree is preferred, and must have experience in an Inpatient Rehabilitation setting. A DC License must be obtained before employment begins, along with current Basic Life Support certification.
The George Washington University Hospital’s Medical-Surgical Rehabilitation Department is seeking a Physical Therapist to join our rehab team full-time to support the therapy needs of our hospitalized patients. GW Hospital is a 385 bed Level 1 Trauma Center, Academic Medical Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center located in the heart of Washington, DC. GW offers clinical expertise and world-class care in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neuroscience, critical care, trauma, women’s health, organ and tissue transplant, and advanced surgical techniques. Our rehab therapists work at the top of their license alongside other healthcare professionals to enhance patients’ functional recovery and self-actualization, provide consultative services, make recommendations, and elevate patient care through unit and system-based quality initiatives, evidence-based research and practice, and true interdisciplinary care.
Perform detailed assessments of adult patients’ neurological, musculoskeletal, sensory, cognitive, and functional needs in the acute hospital setting. Create and implement individualized therapy plans that support patients’ functional recovery and transition of care planning. Work in close coordination with nurses, physicians, rehab staff, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients. Offer guidance and education to patients and caregivers This position is 40 hours (five 8-hour weekday shifts) per week, with one required weekend shift per month.
