The Radiation Therapist assists with daily patient flow in the Radiation Oncology clinical location, evaluates processes for patient care improvement, and assists physicians by administering prescribed doses of ionizing radiation using specialized equipment. This includes preparing treatment rooms, explaining procedures, positioning patients, monitoring comfort, simulating treatments, and constructing custom treatment devices.
Required qualifications include a current Radiation Therapy license issued by IEMA Department of Nuclear Safety and ARRT Radiology registration (or successful completion within 6 months of hire). Candidates need knowledge of radiation therapy procedures, equipment operation, physics, and patient care techniques, along with strong interpersonal and analytical skills for effective communication and accurate treatment execution.

According to established procedures, assists physicians by treating patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. In doing so, prepares treatment room, explains procedures to patients, positions patients and administers treatments. Monitors patients during therapy sessions in order to ensure patients' comfort and to observe changes in patients' condition. Simulates patient treatment according to the treatment plan and delivers prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. Designs and constructs custom treatment devices for individual patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
