Provide direct perioperative nursing care to surgical patients before, during, and after procedures while maintaining a sterile environment. Collaborate with surgeons and anesthesia providers to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
Requires a Registered Nurse license, CPR/BLS certification, and at least one year of RN experience with specific OR experience. A BSN is preferred along with the ability to perform the scrub role.
OR experience required. Provide direct perioperative nursing care to surgical patients before, during, and after procedures in accordance with clinical standards and surgical protocols. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical technologist to ensure patient safety, procedural efficiency, and optimal surgical outcomes. Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical environment by following strict infection control practices and accurately accounting for instruments, sponges, and sharps. Continuously assess patient condition and surgical progress, documenting care provided and responding promptly to changes in patient status during procedures. Participate in pre-op and prost-op briefings, debriefings, and quality improvement initiations to enhance teamwork, communication, and patient outcomes. Performs scrub role (requirement for RNs hired on or after July 1, 2023). *Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.*Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Orientation M-F 0700-1530 (6 months for non-experienced; 6 weeks for experienced). Once off orientation, Candidate will choose M-F 8s, 10s or 12hrs shifts. On-call will involve one weekend as general and one weekend as back up call every 7th weekend with 1 weekday as general call and one weekday as back up call shift every 7th weekday! Perk! No scheduled weekends and no scheduled holidays.
UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
