This role involves performing a variety of patient care testing activities to assist physicians, including obtaining diagnostic information through preliminary eye examinations and specialized ophthalmic imaging procedures. Responsibilities also cover administrative tasks like documenting results in the EMR, maintaining patient flow, and ensuring clinical supply stocking and room cleanliness.
The primary requirement is the ability to perform extensive preliminary ophthalmic testing and specialized imaging, with a preference for candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish. While preferred medical experience is mentioned, the posting indicates they will train the right candidate.
This position performs a variety of patient care testing activities to assist physician(s) and medical office personnel. They obtain information and perform tests on patients that provide diagnostic information to physician(s).
Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. Reviews patient charts and documents tests and examination results in electronic medical record (EMR). Verify patient information and obtains patient history including reason for visit. Escort patients throughout the clinic as needed. Perform preliminary testing for eye examinations to include but not limited to: Visual acuity, lensometry, autorefraction, color testing, pupillary testing, extraocular motility, confrontation visual fields, tonometry, contact lens training, pupil dilation, and refraction. Perform ophthalmic imaging as needed to include but not limited to: fundus photography, ocular coherence tomography (OCT), corneal topography, fluorescein angiography (IVFA), Lipiscan, and ultrasound (B-Scan). Perform point of care testing such as Rapid Pathogen Screening (RPS) and tear osmolarity. Perform pre-operative cataract surgery testing to include: Glare testing (HARK), potential acuity (PAM), and A-scan biometry (IOL Master). Demonstrate the ability to work with geriatric as well as pediatric patients. Stocks clinical supplies on an ongoing basis. Cleaning of patient exam rooms in relation to testing and equipment. Demonstrate compliance with all provisions of safety rules and other clinic policies and procedures. Safeguard patient’s medical and personal information and maintains patient confidentiality. Work with other staff members to coordinate patient care. Attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested and enhances professional growth and development through meetings, education programs, seminars and conferences.
