The Licensed Practical Nurse provides nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician, involving data collection, ongoing monitoring, and documentation of patient responses, while also administering medications and providing patient/family instruction. Responsibilities include performing specialized functions like administering peritoneal dialysis to acute care medical and surgical patients on the Nephrology Unit.
Candidates must complete an LPN program recognized by the SC State Board of Nursing and possess one year of LPN experience, although residency programs or enrollment in an LPN to RN transition program may substitute for experience. Licensure as an LPN in South Carolina is required for practice.
