The Respiratory Therapist performs duties necessary to treat patients according to physician orders and departmental policy, working independently in intensive care and critical care settings. Essential functions include performing respiratory therapy procedures, managing various types of mechanical ventilation, obtaining and analyzing blood gases, and communicating treatment recommendations to the healthcare team.
Candidates must have an Associate degree, or a diploma and equivalent experience in lieu of the degree, and must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program. Required credentials include a Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the state of work, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification, and maintenance of various life support certifications like BLS, NRP, PALS, ACLS, and NPS.
Skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
