The Direct Support Professional provides assistance and support to individuals with developmental, physical, and psychiatric disabilities, focusing on daily intervention, supervision, and skills training within a home and community setting. Responsibilities include managing medical and financial needs, maintaining detailed progress documentation, administering medications, and fostering independence through decision-making support.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, or have at least five years of verified experience in the same position, with a preference for one year working with individuals with developmental or psychiatric disabilities. Essential requirements include excellent communication and organizational skills, computer literacy, the ability to drive a large or wheelchair van, and the physical capacity to provide lifting and physical assistance to people weighing over 200 pounds.

The Direct Support Professional will provide support and assistance to people with developmental, physical and psychiatric disabilities as needed based on the needs of the residential program assigned. The Direct Support Professional will provide support to people in our services who need daily intervention, supervision and skills training in activities of daily living while managing within a home environment and in the community. People in our services may require physical assistance or accommodation. Staff will receive and must pass specialized training to provide enhanced supervision or interventions designed to address multiple disabilities which may include behavioral support or enhanced medical care. Staff may be required to have specialized certifications; be credentialed or trained in specialized areas such as PABC or ABA techniques; and/or have advanced training in areas such as autism, behavioral support and/or healthcare.

The physical demands of employees working in residential programs assisting people with their care needs are varied and require the employee to be able to maneuver people of varying weights, and provide lifting, balanced support and physical intervention in a few scenarios.

The pay range listed for this position is the hourly rate range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
