The Medical Assistant assists with providing quality patient care, which includes clinical tasks like rooming patients, taking vital signs, and administering approved medications under supervision. They also perform required administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence and scheduling patient appointments.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or have five years of equivalent experience, along with current CPR certification including pediatric content. Required skills include strong communication, interpersonal abilities, professional behavior, and computer literacy for data entry and EMR documentation.
Typical schedule: four 9-hour days per week, plus one Saturday morning per month.
Summary: Assists with the provision of quality patient care and performs required administrative tasks.
Essential Functions: May prepare correspondence, documents, reports and other materials of varying complexity and confidentiality, sometimes requiring independent judgment. Schedules patient appointments and provides follow-up and reminder calls. Assists with various clinical tasks that include rooming of patients, vital signs, heights and weights, and any applicable screening questions. Provides basic, supportive patient care and administers approved medications under the delegation of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Collects and reports data to a licensed professional, including any abnormalities, and documents all findings in the medical record. May act as a preceptor for orientation and training of new staff, float staff and students as directed. Education Requirement: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or five years of equivalent experience, required.
CPR certified (American Heart Association Heart saver with pediatric content) course, or Health Care Provider course or Red Cross equivalent, required.
Strong written and verbal communications, interpersonal and problem-solving skills and professional behavior in the presence of patients and staff. Successful completion of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel orientation, and skills verification as required and provided by Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Computer familiarity and literacy with general data entry. Ability to learn and be proficient with specific computer programs, systems and Electronic Medical Record documentation.
