The Medical Technician III (Certified Nursing Assistant) provides direct patient care in a 75-bed inpatient hospital, supporting medical staff and assisting with patient self-care tasks, such as hygiene, feeding, and taking vital signs. Responsibilities include transporting patients, preparing rooms, assisting in therapeutic activities, and maintaining unit equipment. The role involves limited supervision and requires initiative and judgment. Additionally, the technician may drive state vehicles for patient transport, ensuring vehicle cleanliness and reporting any issues, while following Department of Health policies.
1. Patient-Centered Care and Support (30%)
Provides comprehensive, compassionate care by addressing the emotional, psychological, and physical needs of patients and their families. Performs personal care tasks (e.g., bathing, hygiene, feeding, mobility assistance) and aids with patient positioning. Communicates clearly with patients and caregivers, maintaining confidentiality and a supportive environment. Prepares patient rooms for new admissions, ensuring cleanliness and readiness, and promptly responds to patient call lights.
2. Clinical Assistance and Rehabilitation Support (20%)
Monitors and records vital signs, assists with specimen collection, and performs blood glucose checks. Collaborates with medical staff during exams and procedures. Organizes and operates therapeutic equipment to support rehabilitation exercises, motivating patients to participate and aiding in their recovery process.
3. Infection Control and Equipment Maintenance (20%)
Adheres strictly to infection control protocols, including hand hygiene and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Cleans and maintains patient care equipment (e.g., IV pumps, wheelchairs), ensuring safety and functionality. Conducts preventive maintenance and coordinates repairs as needed. Emphasizes respiratory precautions and safety measures to maintain a clean and compliant environment.
4. Patient Transportation and Engagement (15%)
Safely transports patients within the facility and to off-site appointments, adapting schedules to meet patient needs. Ensures patient safety and comfort during transit, assists with vehicle entry and exit, and maintains vehicle cleanliness. Engages patients in recreational and diversional activities, both indoors and outdoors, to enhance well-being.
5. Regulatory Compliance and Resource Management (10%)
Maintains compliance with Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, and other regulatory guidelines. Participates in audits, prepares documentation, and actively supports the team in adhering to regulatory standards. Efficiently manages medical supplies, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal. Keeps certifications up to date and attends required staff meetings and training sessions.
6. Additional Duties and Disaster Response (5%)
Participates in disaster response, Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, and other assigned duties. May require alternate shift patterns or travel to different locations, ensuring agency obligations are met effectively.
1. Texas Nurse’s Aide Certificate.
2. Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
1. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred.
2. Certification as a Nurse Aide (CNA) required.
3. Experience in health care or patient care work preferably in hospital setting.
4. Preferred experience in the operation of motor vehicles on a commercial basis.
5. Current CPR.
