The technologist operates the MRI scanner under supervision to acquire diagnostic images for physician use in diagnosing and treating pathologies, while providing care to patients across all age groups. Duties include patient screening, administering contrast media, manipulating images via computerized controls, and maintaining required records and equipment functionality.
Candidates must have completed two years of post-high school training in an approved radiologic technology school and be ARRT registered with current BLS Certification; previous MRI experience is preferred. The role requires strong interpersonal skills for interacting with stressed patients and analytical abilities to utilize MRI techniques and cross-sectional anatomy knowledge effectively.

Must have analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of MRI techniques and methods and knowledge of cross sectional anatomy. 4. Previous MRI experience preferred. 5. Work requires six months on-the-job training to acquire necessary familiarity with MRI procedures, techniques and methods. 6. Registration, Certification or Licensure Requirement: ARRT registered. Performance 1. Interviews patient to determine patient eligibility for MRI exam (example: pacemaker, vascular clips, foreign bodies, hearing aid). Fills out patient eligibility sheet and gets patient signature for consent before starting exam. 2. Examines patient's charts to be aware of suspected pathologies and appropriate clinical history while conducting exam. Takes standard radiographs as necessary for preliminary exam. 3. Administers injections of contrast media for examinations following established sterile techniques and methods. 4. Operates scanner's computerized controls and enters commands necessary to visualize and manipulate screen images. Operates various peripheral equipment such as optical disc drive. 5. Manipulates MRI image through computerized controls to obtain best possible images. 6. Operates Laser Imager to reproduce appropriate screen images on film. Ensures films are of acceptable diagnostic quality and completeness. 7. Maintains required files and records and prepares periodic statistical reports, such as number and types of exams performed for supervisor's review. 8. Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs as needed. Ensures necessary maintenance and repairs are completed in an efficient and timely manner. 9. Schedules MRI examinations in order to ensure smooth flow and optimal utilization of equipment. 10. Requisitions, stores and inventories approved supplies in assigned area, such as linen, syringes, needles, contrast media and so forth. 11. Instructs and demonstrates MRI equipment operation, filming and other technical aspects for radiology students and Radiology or Medical Center personnel. 12. Assists physicians doing invasive sterile technique procedures. 13. Adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to designated Manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices. 14.
