Administers anesthesia to patients during surgical procedures while monitoring their physical reactions to ensure safety. Collaborates with the supervising anesthesiologist to develop anesthetic plans and performs emergency measures when complications arise.
Requires a Bachelor's degree or higher and certification by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants. Candidates must hold valid BLS and ACLS certifications and possess strong critical thinking skills.
Obtains a comprehensive patient history and performs relevant elements of a physical exam. Discusses findings and anesthetic plan with supervising anesthesiologist before induction of anesthesia. Reviews the patient's condition with the anesthesiologist immediately prior to the induction of anesthesia. Pretests and calibrates anesthesia delivery systems. Administers blood, blood products and supportive fluids. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree or higher from an institution of higher learning accredited by an organization recognized by the board of regents.
