Requires one year of specialized experience in ultrasound examinations or a graduate degree in Sonography or Radiology. Must be registered or registry-eligible with the Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
As a Medical Instrument Tech (Ultrasound) you will: Perform a wide variety of complex ultrasound examinations of human patients to aid in the diagnosis of disease or injury. Explain the ultrasound examining process to the patient. Select, sets up, adjusts, and operates ultrasound equipment. Extend and/or modifies the procedure to ensure full and accurate information. Train radiologists, physician assistants, students, and other personnel in ultrasound principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques and equipment. Perform operator level maintenance and care of equipment. The ability to take backup call.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document.Qualifications for GS-08:Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience 1) performing a variety of ultrasound examinations of human patients such obstetrical, extremities, transvaginal, and/or deep vein thrombosis (DVT); and 2) setting up, adjusting, or maintaining ultrasound diagnostic equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).OREducation: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Sonography or Radiology.ORCombination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Must be registered with the Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or be registry eligible, take exam and pass, within one year of employment
