The Nutritionist Associate determines nutrition eligibility for clients and prescribes appropriate food packages based on program guidelines. They also conduct nutritional assessments, set dietary goals, and provide patient counseling to meet individual nutritional needs.
Candidates should have basic knowledge of nutrition and nutritional standards along with the ability to interpret data and communicate effectively. Experience in patient education and proficiency with computer systems are required, while background in nutrition or dietetics is preferred.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts. The New River Health District provides public health services to the residents of Floyd County, Giles County, Montgomery County, Pulaski County and the City of Radford.
This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the WIC grant for a 1 year period ending 9/30/2026. The availability of funding is reviewed before the grant expiration date and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. If this position is designated as a mobile worker, this includes both working in the field and teleworking at an alternate location when not in the field or during an emergency closing. You may be required to periodically come into your assigned office to attend meetings or training
