The Mammography Technologist performs high-resolution breast imaging examinations and assists radiologists with invasive procedures. They are also responsible for maintaining equipment, ensuring quality control, and providing patient-centered care.
Candidates must have two years of formal training in an accredited School of Radiologic Technology and hold current ARRT certification in Mammography. A valid Rhode Island state license and current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers certification are also required.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Two years formal training in an accredited School of Radiologic Technology, plus registration through the American Registry of Radiology Technology in Mammography. Must maintain requirements as outlined by the Mammography Quality Standards Act and the American College of Radiology. Current and valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island. Must hold a current CPR certification from AHA, BLS for Healthcare Providers. Must have the conceptual ability to determine the means of providing the requested mammography images of acceptable diagnostic quality based on the specifics of each use. Must have analytical skills to determine best method of obtaining the desired results. Must have the interpersonal skills to work amicably with radiologists, technologists, clerical staff, and referring physicians. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. EXPERIENCE: Between one and three months orientation and on the job training. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Exposure to radiation, but there is little chance of injury when established safety precautions are followed. Continuous standing along with walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and positioning of patients required. Possibility of needle sticks. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures.
