The Ophthalmic Technician assists the Ophthalmologist by performing initial testing using specialized equipment to prepare patients for their examination. This includes providing exceptional customer service, verifying patient information, recording medical history, and performing various diagnostic tests on the patient's eyes.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of related experience, though a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician certification is preferred but not mandatory. Essential qualifications include proficiency in specific ophthalmic procedures, knowledge of eye anatomy and diseases, and strong organizational and communication skills.
An Ophthalmic Technician is a valuable asset to an Ophthalmologist as they assist in providing excellent patient care to the patients during their visit. This employee is able to handle a wide range of duties while using equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with an Ophthalmologist.
