Functions as a Registered Nurse First Assist under the direction of a surgeon during operative procedures, providing hemostasis, exposure, and wound closure. When not assisting, performs duties as a scrub or circulating nurse and provides general professional nursing care to patients.
Requires an active Ohio RN license, CNOR certification, and completion of an AORN-standard RNFA program. A BSN is required for those not practicing as an RNFA prior to 2020, and current BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory.
Registered Nurse First Assist - Surgery and WP
Main function: Under supervision and direction of the operating surgeon, functions during the assistant role until
conclusion of the operative procedure. Does not concurrently function as scrub nurse. When not
working as a RNFA, works as scrub or circulating nurse as directed.
Must be able to respond to the hospital within 30 MINUTES
or be willing to stay on site while on call.

7. Provides exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning, and sponging
techniques.
8. Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon during the operative procedure. 9. Performs wound closure as directed by the surgeon, sutures the peritoneum, fascia,
subcutaneous tissue and skin.

Provides nursing care to patients in an efficient, professional, compassionate, and caring manner.
Directs the activities of paraprofessional as they provide care. Responsible for assuring effective.
communication with patients, support persons and members of the healthcare team. Responsible for
implementing nursing care of assigned patients via the Nursing Process including assessment,
diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Acts in compliance with hospital, Nursing Department policies/procedures and the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Ohio. Follows WCH
Nursing Philosophy and practice model which are derived from the Synergy model and appropriate service standards as outlined in Employee Handbook.
