Employees in this position may be

• Exposed to blood, body fluids and/or airborne pathogens, and are required to wear protective barriers.
• Employees in this position must be able to push, pull, lift, carry, turn, crouch, and bend as necessary to complete radiology exam tasks.
• Employees may be expected to work weekends, Holidays or possibly take call
• Subject to STHR (Short Term Hours Reduction) according to policy
• Practice ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) concept when performing exams resulting in radiation exposure to the patient

POSITIONS – Diagnostic X-Ray Technologist, Computed Tomography Technologist, Mammography Technologist, Cath/Specials Technologist, and Bone Density Technologist

• Key Functions
• Perform QC as outlined below 1. Perform appropriate tube warm up practices 2. Perform quality control specific to modality (Phantom Imaging and evaluation, cassette cleaning, etc…) 3. Work with Field Service Engineer to maintain equipment functionality and image quality
• Apply appropriate radiation safety practices to daily activities 1. Practice ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) methods to minimize radiation exposure to patients and coworkers 2. Utilize protective barriers, lead aprons, and shields when possible 3. Collimate and shield to minimize patient radiation exposure 4. Participate in data collection for quarterly Radiology Quality Assurance Committee 5. Always follow the Safe Operating Procedures specific to the equipment 6. Work closely with the medical physicist to follow ODH (Ohio Department of Health) rules regarding radiation safety practices
• Routine responsibilities 1. Evaluate the physicians order for accuracy 2. Identify the patient utilizing two forms of ID 3. Set appropriate KVP, MAS settings for exposure 4. Accurately position the patient so that all projections can be obtained 5. Perform exam to provide quality images for physician interpretation 6. Post process image data for physician interpretation 7. Provide patient education when required 8. Provide hospital personnel education as needed 9. Work under the direction of the Radiologist/Physician during procedures to achieve the goal of appropriate care 10. In an emergent situation operate quickly, and in control, provide the procedure to achieve the best patient outcome

Computed Tomography Technologist

Main function

CT Technologists assist the Radiologist/Physician with the process of imaging for diagnosing illness. CT Technologists job descriptions include tasks such as: capturing the image, obtaining the best quality image, and ensuring the patients are comfortable and safe. The CT Technologist must be able to effectively explain the procedure to the patient. In addition, be sure that they are comfortable and at ease during the procedure; however, it is very important that they do what is necessary to obtain a high quality image that will be sufficient for thorough examination by the physician to allow for accurate interpretation and diagnosis.

Additional Position Expectations

• Flexibility to work off shifts as needed by the department which is staffed 24 hours a day
• Patient communication and preparation including removal of garments or jewelry that may interfere with procedure and explaining how the process works.
• Positioning patients properly to obtain Imaging exam
• Setting the equipment to obtain the best density, detail, and contrast of the area being imaged.
• Taking preventative steps to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation.
• Applying their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the process in order to aid in physician diagnosis of patient.
• Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately, and professionally with all types of patients including pediatric, the elderly, ailing, and handicapped.
• Perform other assignments as requested by the Imaging Services Director or Manager
• Non CT registered technologists are expected that registry will be obtained within 18 months of hire.
• Possess sufficient computer skills to perform responsibilities in PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and RIS (Radiology Information System)
• Accurately post process images to produce accurate representation of anatomical structures.
