Job Summary The Medical Transcriptionist 1 transcribes dictation by physicians and other healthcare professionals in order to document patient care. Essential Functions of the Role Transcribes confidential medical and non-medical dictation in prescribed formats. Uses designated computer, dictation, and transcription equipment as directed. Documents patient care and ensures continuity in care planning activities. Interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and healthcare professionals. This includes patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Completes tasks timely to meet production standards and follows established policies and procedures. Adheres to English term usage to correctly document medical records. Obtains additional information needed to ensure complete documentation of records. Requests assistance to interpret dictation that is unclear or inconsistent, and/or makes use of professional materials in a timely manner. Interacts with physicians and internal customers in a professional and courteous manner. Key Success Factors Word processing experience required. Able to type 60 wpm with 85% accuracy required. Demonstrates understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications and laboratory values. Excellent listening skills, and oral and written communication skills required. Certified Medical Transcription Certificate preferred. Must have extensive knowledge of Anatomic Pathology terminology. Must have experience using transcription equipment and instrumentation.
