The Surgical Technologist is responsible for handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during obstetrical operations in the Labor and Delivery unit. They must anticipate surgeon needs and ensure quality patient care while maintaining a sterile field.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and have completed a surgical technologist training program or possess equivalent clinical experience. Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire, with Neonatal Resuscitation preferred.
Responsible for handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the obstetrical operations performed in the Operating Room located in the Labor and Delivery unit. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Performs patient care duties under the direction of a registered nurse.
Education H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required Work Experience Graduate from a Surgical Technologist training program Required or 1 year previous operating room experience as a Surgical/Delivery Room Technologist Required or 3 years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting Required Licenses and Certifications BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Preferred Business
