The Home Health Aide will provide specialized care to nonverbal children, utilizing alternative communication tools and supporting their daily living needs. They will work collaboratively with a care team to ensure consistent support and maintain accurate documentation of the client's condition.
Candidates must have experience working with children, preferably with nonverbal individuals on the autism spectrum. A formal certification training program, current CPR certification, and a valid driver's license with insurance are required.
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Home Health Aide with hands-on experience supporting nonverbal children, particularly those on the autism spectrum. The ideal candidate is confident using alternative communication strategies and understands the unique behavioral and sensory needs of nonverbal clients. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse Clinical Supervisor, the Aide is assigned to specific clients and performs services necessary to maintain their personal comfort and well-being.
This is a stable, consistent Monday–Friday daytime position with no evening or weekend requirements.
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor
Engage nonverbal clients using alternative communication methods such as visual schedules, picture exchange systems (PECS), gestures, and other AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) tools. Recognize and appropriately respond to behavioral cues as a substitute for verbal communication. Provide companionship and, if authorized, transportation to clients according to the care plan. Assist client with general Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, meals, and safe ambulation/transfers. Report any changes in the client's condition or communication patterns to the supervisor as outlined in the care plan. Document care provided and maintain accurate records for the Agency. Work collaboratively with the client's care team — including therapists, school staff, and family members — to ensure consistent, effective communication and care. Promote client safety by following infection control practices and reporting unsafe conditions. Attend in-service programs to meet compliance and notify supervisors of any educational needs.
Experience working with children is required. Experience with nonverbal individuals, particularly children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is strongly preferred. Familiarity with alternative communication systems (PECS, AAC devices, visual supports) strongly preferred. Licensed driver with automobile insured in accordance with state and/or Agency requirements and in good repair. Successful completion of a formal certification training program. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Demonstrated ability to read and follow a written care plan and provide related documentation. Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
