The Physician Extender will provide critical care and surgical support at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research Burn Center. Responsibilities include performing invasive procedures, managing patient care orders, and providing clinical instruction to students and staff.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program and hold a valid, unrestricted license. A minimum of one year of recent clinical experience and current certifications in BLS, CPR, and ATLS are required.
Description Arise Staffing is currently seeking a Physician Extender-Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in support of the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research, Burn Center, San Antonio Military Medical Center, Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), Fort Sam Houston, TX.

This position is to provide temporary coverage due to a military deployment.
The HCP shall provide services on an as-needed basis. Normal duty hours may be scheduled between 0600 and 1900 hours. PA/NP will not be scheduled (or work) more than 40 hours per week. Scheduled duty hours will include a 30- or 60-minute lunch/dinner break will be given during the shift as determined by the unit. Work shall normally be performed during the duty day, and weekends as needed (including federal holidays). Hours will be flexible at the discretion of the Director, USAISR Burn Center
The duties include, but are not limited to, the following: The primary functions of the PA/NP will be as follows, in order of importance. These functions will be carried out under the direction of the Director, Burn Center. It is understood that the unattended performance of invasive critical care procedures will not be undertaken until the PA/NP, in writing, is approved by the Director, Burn Center, for each procedure in question. Assist with burn surgery when needed. To perform critical care procedures, including but not limited to history taking, physical examination, recording progress notes, writing orders for patient care, and performing catheterization, ventilator management, feeding tube placement, bronchoscopy, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Participate in the rounds and other education of the Burn Center. Evaluate and Treat Patients in the Burn Unit Provide instructional information to visiting military and civilian students, residents, and staff personnel in burn care management. Participate in national, state, and local planning, infection control, ABLS, and ATLS.
Education: PA/NP must be graduates of a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Training Program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association. HCP must have successfully completed the examination given by the governing medical associations (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners).
PA/NP shall possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted, current license to practice from any United States jurisdiction and a National Provider Identifier (NPI). The licenses and certificates must be renewed and maintained in a current status during the life of the contract. PA/NP shall have no record of disciplinary action that would currently exclude, suspend or terminate him/her as an authorized Uniform Health Services or TRICARE provider.
The HCP must also have a minimum of one year of experience within the last three years, routinely practicing as a PA/NP working in a Burn Unit.
