The Medical Technologist performs professional laboratory work, including conducting tests on patient specimens and reporting results to providers. They are responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring quality control, and adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
A Bachelor of Science degree in a health-related or scientific field is required, with a preference for Medical Technology. Candidates must hold a Florida State License and certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists, along with at least one year of clinical experience.
Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine and stat blood and urine tests. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and medical staff. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate clearly in writing or verbally. Able to effectively communicate through the telephone system when reporting critical results.
A Bachelor of Science degree in a health-related or scientific field is required; a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology is preferred.
One year experience as a clinical Medical Technologist is required; two years experience is preferred.
The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
