The dentist provides routine and emergency dental care to adult offenders within a correctional facility and as part of a mobile dental unit. They are responsible for diagnosing oral health issues, developing treatment plans, and supervising dental assistants and hygienists.
Candidates must hold a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree from an ADA-approved school and possess a valid Virginia dental license. A Controlled Substances Certificate from the DEA and the ability to travel to various correctional sites are also required.

Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association (ADA). Other dental schools are acceptable provided the education and knowledge acquired was substantially equivalent to that of graduates from an ADA approved school
Licensed to practice Dentistry in Virginia
Controlled Substances Certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and treat oral health issues and inform patients on preventative care and treatment
Ability to travel to surrounding institutions and field units as a part of the Mobile Dental Unit, providing dental care and oral healthcare to the patients at those sites
Ability to diagnose conditions using advanced technologies including radiography and computer-generated imaging
Experience with restoration and replacement of teeth damaged from decay, trauma, or disease
Working knowledge of general dentistry
Ability to communicate orally and in written form in a professional manner
Additional Considerations: Previous supervisory experience or work experience training and supervising dental staff
Experience providing dental care and treatment in a dentist office, military, or correctional setting
