Certified Medication Aide

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a healthcare or long-term care facility.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medication administration software.
• Additional certifications in patient care or healthcare support roles.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• CPR and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Administer prescribed medications to patients following established protocols and under the supervision of licensed nurses.
• Monitor patients for side effects or adverse reactions and communicate observations to nursing staff promptly.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date medication administration records and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Assist with patient care activities as directed, including basic health monitoring and reporting changes in patient condition.
• Ensure medication storage areas are organized, secure, and comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in ongoing training and competency evaluations to maintain certification and stay current with best practices.

• The Certified Medication Aide utilizes strong attention to detail and organizational skills daily to ensure accurate medication administration and record-keeping.
• Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, understanding their needs, and collaborating with nursing staff to provide comprehensive care.
• Critical thinking and observational skills enable the CMA to identify potential medication side effects or patient health changes promptly.
• Familiarity with healthcare technology, such as electronic health records, supports efficient documentation and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Additionally, empathy and patience are vital interpersonal skills that help the CMA provide compassionate support to patients in diverse healthcare settings.
