We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Oncology Technician/Assistant to join our dedicated oncology team. In this role, you will work closely with our veterinary oncologists and medical staff to provide exceptional care to pets diagnosed with cancer. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal welfare, a background in veterinary care, and an interest in oncology.
Key Responsibilities
Patient
Care: Assist in the care and monitoring of oncology patients, including those receiving chemotherapy, and other advanced treatments.
Treatment
Administration: Administer chemotherapy drugs, supportive medications, and IV fluids under the supervision of the oncologist. Assist in preparing and ensuring the safe handling of cytotoxic medications.
Diagnostic
Support: Collect diagnostic samples (blood, urine, biopsy, etc.) for testing and assist with diagnostic imaging procedures (X-rays, CT scans, Ultrasounds, etc.).
Client
Education: Communicate with pet owners about treatment plans, medication administration, side effects, and post-treatment care instructions.
Clinical
Procedures: Assist with routine and specialized procedures such as catheter placement, blood draws, and administering injections.
Laboratory
Work: Prepare and process laboratory samples, run diagnostics, and assist in interpreting results.
Record
Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for oncology patients, including treatment plans, progress notes, and any adverse reactions.
Inventory
Management: Ensure that chemotherapy and other oncology-related supplies are stocked and properly maintained.
Team
Collaboration: Work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to ensure a high standard of care and patient comfort.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
3 years of experience as a veterinary technician or assistant
Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred.
