The trainee will participate in hands-on training for medication preparation, dispensing, and delivery within an inpatient hospital pharmacy. They are also responsible for completing didactic modules and assisting with sterile and non-sterile compounding under pharmacist supervision.
Candidates must be enrolled in the MyMichigan Health Pharmacy Technician Training Program and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must demonstrate strong attention to detail, basic math and computer literacy, and the ability to obtain Michigan Pharmacy Technician Licensure within one year.
The Pharmacy Technician Trainee position is designed for individuals enrolled in the MyMichigan Health Employer-Based Pharmacy Technician Training Program in partnership with Pharmacy Technician University (PTU). Trainees gain comprehensive didactic and hands-on training in an inpatient hospital pharmacy while completing state-approved requirements for pharmacy technician licensure. This temporary training role provides the foundational knowledge, technical skills, and professional behaviors required to safely support the medication-use process under the supervision of licensed pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Upon successful completion of the program and licensure, trainees may be eligible for placement into a Pharmacy Technician role within MyMichigan Health.
(50 %) *Participate in hands-on training in medication preparation, dispensing, and delivery within the hospital inpatient pharmacy. (50 %) *Complete PTU didactic modules (100+ hours) and required quizzes, assignments, and final exam Assist with sterile and non-sterile compounding in compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards. Learn and apply principles of medication safety, patient confidentiality (HIPAA), and ethical pharmacy practice. Support the use of automated dispensing cabinets, barcoding, and electronic health record systems. Assist with receiving, stocking, and rotating medications in accordance with storage, labeling, and inventory control standards. Practice accurate pharmaceutical calculations and proper use of pharmaceutical-medical terminology, abbreviations, and symbols. Demonstrate effective teamwork, professional communication, and adherence to MyMichigan policies and procedures. Uphold infection control, aseptic technique, and safety practices in all assigned work areas. Other duties as assigned.
