The Medical Assistant provides direct and indirect support to clinicians by preparing exam rooms, managing patient charts, and performing diagnostic tests. They are also responsible for administering medications, collecting lab specimens, and coordinating patient referrals under the supervision of a practitioner.
Candidates must have successfully completed an accredited Medical Assistant program and hold a current CPR certification. A valid state driver's license and reliable transportation are also required for this role.
Provides direct and indirect support to the clinician in the delivery of patient care. The CMA/MA prepares the exam room, chart, and patient to be seen by the practitioner and performs/implements orders for diagnostic tests. CMA/MA accurately administers medications, including immunizations by all routes except IV. CMA/MA routinely arranges outside referral appointments and provides patient education under the direction of the clinician when appropriate. The CMA/MA must function under the direct supervision of a physician, RN, or midlevel practitioner. The CMA/MA is expected to consult frequently with the supervising practitioner and to inform the clinician of the information given or actions taken. Care provided, including but not limited to lab specimen collections, injections, phlebotomy, in-house lab tests, vaccines, screenings, and referrals.
