Learn more: https://www.stmarysregional.com What You’ll Do As a Lab Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting laboratory operations, ensuring accurate documentation, and assisting clinical staff.
Responsibilities include: Performing clerical functions in Microbiology and the Laboratory, including monitoring, ordering, inventory, and stocking supplies.
Setting up quality control, preparing slides (including staining), and loading/unloading blood cultures.
Setting up specimens, ordering labs for patients, and preparing specimens for send‑out to reference laboratories.
Following up on worklists and scanning results into the patient’s EMR.
Answering phones and performing phlebotomy duties as needed.
Using Laboratory and Reference Laboratory computer systems effectively.
Training new Lab Assistants.
Alerting appropriate staff regarding STAT orders.
Assisting medical staff and hospital departments with laboratory records and test results.
Printing, faxing, distributing, and scanning patient reports per laboratory policy.
Maintaining accurate, organized files of patient reports.
