The veterinarian will provide high-quality medical and surgical care to shelter animals, foster pets, and community clinic patients. They will also collaborate with internal teams to guide medical protocols, mentor support staff, and contribute to facility planning.
Candidates must hold a DVM degree from an accredited program and possess a valid Illinois veterinary license. Proficiency in surgery, strong diagnostic skills, and a collaborative mindset are required for this role.
Collaboration & Internal Support Serve as the primary medical partner for our animal care, intake, foster, and adoption teams. Mentor veterinary technicians and clinic support staff. Collaborate with leadership on policies and protocols, workflow improvements, and future clinic planning.
Standards, Safety & Compliance Maintain high ethical and professional standards. Ensure accurate medical records and adherence to safety protocols. Contribute to a supportive work environment for staff, volunteers, and animals.
Organizational Support Provide input and feedback on program development and operational improvements. Participate in mission-focused meetings, trainings, and organization events. Embrace additional duties that support our organizational mission.
Preferred Shelter medicine or nonprofit experience. Comfort with small mammals or willingness to learn. Ability to consult on occasional wildlife cases (managed by wildlife staff).
