The sonographer performs diagnostic medical ultrasound examinations while maintaining equipment quality control and adhering to safety protocols. They serve as a resource to physicians and function as a delegated agent under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED and be certified through ARRT or ARDMS. The role requires competency in at least one specialty such as Abdomen, OBGYN, or Vascular technology, along with CPR certification.
Perform breast ultrasound examinations and breast biopsy procedures according to policy and protocol Serve as a resource to the physicians for breast ultrasound Review scheduled appointments for outside imaging, imaging/physician reports and additional criteria required by radiologist. Greet patients with a calm and soothing manner as to help alleviate anxiety related to their examinations Ensure patient understands results and recommendations of their examination as given by the radiologist Maintain proper quality control of ultrasound equipment
Required Education and Experience: ARDMS registered, with a minimum of 1 year experience of breast scanning. Registered in breast or must complete breast registry within 3 months of employment. CPR certification within 3 months of employment
