The Physical Therapy Assistant provides direct physical therapy care to customers, including examination, assessment, and treatment using various modalities. They also maintain clinical logs, ensure compliance with physician orders, and collaborate with the healthcare team to maximize patient independence.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited physical therapy school in the United States and hold current Colorado licensure. Passing the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE) is required, with two years of clinical experience preferred.

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) position is a licensed physical therapist assistant responsible for providing direct physical therapy care to customers. The PTA must be proficient in the examination, assessment, and treatment of physical deficiencies through the use of special exercise, manual therapy, movements, hydrotherapy, and physical modalities. The goal is to assist persons who are experiencing loss of various physical functions to maximize independence and improve mobility, self-care, and other functional skills necessary for daily living, sports and work-related activities. The PTA works closely with physical therapy staff, department directors, physicians, nursing staff, administrative staff, and customers and their families. The PTA will consistently deliver growth and extraordinary customer outcomes in a person-centered environment.
1. Promotes and maintains health by providing physical therapy services under the supervision of the Physical Therapist Manager.
2. Contributes to a physical therapist’s effectiveness by identifying patient care issues.
3. Administers treatment programs for patients.
4. Complete daily customer care, progress and discharge notes.
5. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of Physical Therapy modalities.
6. Must be able to perform Lifting and Transferring techniques as trained and pass performance testing. The employee may occasionally lift and/or push and pull up to 100 lbs. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement.
7. Driving of agency vehicles for agency business as assigned and as necessary.

10. Maintain clinical logs and checklists necessary for compliance.
11. Implement physicians’ orders and ensure the physicians’ orders are followed by staff.
12. Ensures complete orientation to the department and facility and ongoing training of the PT staff including departmental specifics and work injury prevention.
13. Models appropriate professional behavior and acts as a mentor to team members.
14. Reviews documentation practices for clarity, conciseness, and consistency with customer outcome goals.
15. Ensures ongoing communication with customers and team members in order to keep them informed of key issues and program development opportunities, and to maintain strong customer relations at all times.
16. Performs an appropriate assessment on each customer, as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric customers and the general customer population.
17. Observes and evaluates treatment effects. Recommends changes to physician, if needed.
18. Provide continuous communication with referring physicians and other referral sources.
19. Ensures accuracy and reconciliation of billing data in accordance with billing deadlines.
20. Helps patients in using supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
21. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, and adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
22. Performs therapeutic procedures by administering manual exercises.
23. Reviews the medical records assuring federal and state requirements and conditions of participation for Medicare, Medicaid and other alternative payment modes are being met.

25. Maintain licensure for Physical Therapist Assistant, CPR/First Aid and other courses as required.
26. Support the development of team members to ensure high performance. This includes feeling comfortable in providing critical feedback when necessary and creating annual performance evaluations.
27. Maintain the physical facility and/or job site, both interior and exterior, in a clean, safe and orderly fashion.
28. Maintain strict confidentiality of information learned regarding customers, individuals in service, program issues and staff information.
29. Work flexible schedules or within various environments as agency and supervisor deems necessary. Staff attendance and promptness to assigned shifts is essential. The responsibilities of this position may require staff to be able to work irregular, extended, and/or be available for on-call work hours, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
30. Represent the agency in the represented communities through positive public relations and active involvement in civic functions.
31. Advise supervisor of concerns and problems that arise within the agency.
32. Follow agency policies and procedures in carrying out duties.
33. Safeguard all agency funds and property.
34. Performs other duties as assigned by the Physical Therapy Manager or the Community Supports Director or their designee.
35. Other reasonable duties as may be assigned.

Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
III: Supervisory responsibilities:
The Physical Therapy Manager is responsible for direct supervision of assigned staff and individuals. The Community Supports Director provides supervision of this position. In general, this position requires that the individual work independently approximately 95% of the time.
