Job Summary
The ultrasound technologist produces ultrasonic images for diagnostic and treatment purposes to be reviewed by physicians.
Key Responsibilities
Prepares patients for ultrasound examination. Prepares patients for physician. Explains procedures to the patient prior to the commencement of the testing and provides patient education related to medical ultrasound. Explains procedures to assure cooperation and optimum results. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development. Conducts ultrasonic diagnostic procedures and records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician. Assists physician during invasive procedures requiring ultrasound guidance. Maintains patient charts and records and records and processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to interpreting physician. Code appropriate CPT and ICD10 and submit billing for services performed. Maintains proper operation of the ultrasonic equipment and recognizes malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action. Maintains ultrasound rooms for optimum efficiency. Maintains archives/records scans. Reports preliminary findings and diagnosis to Radiologist/Perinatologist. Is aware of the confidential nature of the clinic and works within legal responsibilities and relevant guidelines for good practice. Uses automated computer system to access patient/client information.
