Clinical Interns will co-facilitate group therapy sessions and provide individual counseling within a behavioral health continuum of care. They are responsible for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to assist with treatment planning and clinical documentation.
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master's degree program in Counseling, Social Work, MFT, or a related field and be eligible for practicum or internship placement. An interest in mental health, substance use treatment, and working toward professional licensure is required.
Position Overview Ava Health is seeking Clinical Interns (Master’s Level) for practicum or internship placements in a mental health and substance use treatment setting. This is a hands-on counseling internship within a continuum of care (OP, IOP, PHP, Residential, Sub-Acute) where interns gain experience in group therapy, individual counseling, and multidisciplinary treatment. Ideal for students pursuing careers in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage & Family Therapy.
Key Responsibilities Co-facilitate and lead group therapy sessions (IOP & PHP) Provide individual counseling sessions (as appropriate) Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultation Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and medical staff Assist with treatment planning, progress notes, and documentation Support clients with coping skills, emotional regulation, and recovery Participate in CBT, DBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing-based programming
Learning Opportunities Experience in a behavioral health continuum of care Develop skills in group therapy facilitation and individual counseling Training in evidence-based practices (CBT, DBT, ACT, MI) Exposure to mental health and substance use treatment populations Learn clinical documentation, treatment planning, and case conceptualization Work in a multidisciplinary team environment
Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program (Counseling, Social Work, MFT, or related field) Eligible for Practicum or Internship placement Working toward licensure (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, etc.) Interest in mental health counseling, substance use treatment, or behavioral health Strong communication skills and willingness to learn Interest in group therapy and clinical skill development
Previous experience in behavioral health, human services, or case management Interest in addiction counseling or dual diagnosis treatment Availability during weekday daytime hours (PHP programming)
