Assists in daily histology laboratory operations by processing, preparing, staining, and mounting patient tissue specimens. Maintains laboratory equipment and ensures adherence to safety and regulatory standards for quality pathology results.
Requires an Associate's Degree and HT(ASCP) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology. A minimum of 6 months of directly related experience is required.
The Histotechnician I/II/III assists with daily histology laboratory operations by processing, preparing, staining, and mounting patient tissue specimens in accordance with established SOPs. Supports quality pathology results through accurate slide preparation, quality control assistance, equipment maintenance, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Maintains an organized, functional laboratory environment and provides support during routine and emergency situations.
Assists in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory with regard to histology specimen processing. Processes and prepares patient tissue according to department procedures using a wide range and depth of technical and specialized knowledge. Participates in laboratory operations as needed. Supports continuous improvement of laboratory services to ensure high quality and timely pathology for quality diagnosis. Position Key Accountabilities: Performs tissue processing, embedding in paraffin, and cutting, sectioning, staining, and mounting on slides for interpretation by a pathologist. Performs slide preparation according to SOP guidelines. Assists with quality control standards in the laboratory. Helps maintain blocks and/or slides files. Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning or performing scheduled equipment and instrument maintenance / calibration / certifications, as required. Complies with all departmental SOPs and adheres to all rules and protocols. Responds to emergency situations. Performs other duties as assigned.
