Supports daily histology laboratory operations by processing and preparing patient tissue specimens for pathologist review. Responsibilities include embedding, sectioning, staining, and maintaining laboratory equipment and specimen files.
Requires an Associate's degree and HT(ASCP) certification with at least six months of directly related experience. Candidates must be able to work early morning shifts and reside permanently in Texas.
Assists in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory with regard to histology specimen processing. Processes and prepares patient tissue according to department procedures using a wide range and depth of technical and specialized knowledge. Participates in laboratory operations as needed. Supports continuous improvement of laboratory services to ensure high quality and timely pathology for quality diagnosis. Position Key Accountabilities: 1. Performs tissue processing, embedding in paraffin, and cutting, sectioning, staining, and mounting on slides for interpretation by a pathologist. 2. Performs slide preparation according to SOP guidelines. 3. Assists with quality control standards in the laboratory. 4. Helps maintain blocks and/or slides files. 5. Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning or performing scheduled equipment and instrument maintenance / calibration / certifications, as required. 6. Complies with all departmental SOPs and adheres to all rules and protocols. 7. Responds to emergency situations. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.
