Provide expert level compassionate care and forensic examinations to victims of sexual assault primarily within the Emergency Department. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support the physical and psychological recovery of patients and their families.
Requires a High School Diploma, current RN licensure in Illinois or Michigan, and BLS certification. Completion of an IAFN accredited SANE didactic course is required, with a BSN and national SANE certification preferred.
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is a highly trained and specialized registered nurse who provides compassionate expert level care to aid the recovery of patients who are victims of sexual assault. The SANE promotes and restores patient health and wellness while collaborating with providers and the multidisciplinary team across the care continuum. This position cares for sexual assault patients primarily in the Emergency Department as needed by assessing and supporting physical symptoms while providing psychological support to patients, friends, and families. This position will be in addition to all other employment obligations on the home department and will comply with state law and OSF HealthCare policy when offering medical-forensic care to patients.
Education: BSN with experience as an RN in emergency, pediatric, or women’s nursing. Licensure/ Certification: Current IAFN national certification: SANE-A and/or SANE-P. Other Skills/ Knowledge: Completion of the State of Illinois SANE clinical component (if not already completed, this will be required within 6 months of hire).
