The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing various specimen collection techniques, including venipuncture and capillary draws. They also provide instructions for urine and specimen culture collections within a laboratory setting.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and completion of an accredited phlebotomy or medical assistant program. A certification from a nationally recognized agency such as NHA, ASCP, AMT, NCCT, or ACA is required.
The Phlebotomist functions as a laboratory professional who performs specimen collection techniques or specimen collection instructions that include: venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instructions, and specimen culture collection instructions.
