Mental Health Counselor / Behavioral Health Consultant, Licensed
Location: West Salem Clinic |1233 Edgewater NW, Salem OR 97304
Full-time, Monday - Friday, with the option to explore a 4/10 schedule after training
In this role, you will rotate between Mental Health Counselor and Behavioral Health Consultant responsibilities. The position is primarily focused on counseling, with approximately four days per week dedicated to scheduled mental health counseling and one designated day per week focused on Behavioral Health Consultant work within the medical clinic.
As a Mental Health Counselor, you will provide ongoing mental health services, including assessment, treatment planning, goal setting, and treatment. Counseling days generally follow a more structured schedule and allow for ongoing therapeutic work with patients.
As a Behavioral Health Consultant, you will work directly with medical patients and providers to address behavioral barriers to wellness through brief, focused interventions. BHC days tend to be more dynamic and fast-paced, with patient contacts occurring through same-day access appointments, walk-ins, warm handoffs, and consultation with the medical team. BHC visits are typically brief and focused, often lasting around 20 to 30 minutes.
This role supports underserved community members and patients with complex needs who may face barriers to accessing timely behavioral health care in other settings. It is a strong fit for a clinician who values integrated care, collaboration, access, and mission-driven work.
Must have appropriate credentials and level of training and licensed as an LCSW in the state of Oregon or have a master’s degree in counseling and be licensed (LPC/LMFT), or doctoral level education in Clinical Psychology (PsyD/PhD) and appropriate licensing and credentialing. Must have graduate course work in theory, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health and dual diagnosis disorders. Must have experience working with persons who have mental health issues and those who are in emotional distress. Demonstrate proficiency using DSM-5-TR, DSM V, and ICD-10. Candidates with experience in a medical clinic are preferred.
