The Respiratory Therapist provides evidence-based respiratory care to patients of all ages, including the administration of medical gases and mechanical ventilation. They collaborate with the healthcare team to monitor supplies and implement physician-ordered respiratory modalities.
Candidates must complete an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program and hold a Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the NBRC. A current state license for Illinois or Michigan and AHA BLS certification are also required.

The Respiratory Therapist works in accordance with evidenced based policies and procedures of the Medical Center with all patient populations. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by the prescribing physician that is appropriate to all the ages of the patients served. In accordance with established policies and procedures, administers medical gases, medications, airway clearance, mechanical ventilation, other respiratory modalities, monitor levels of supplies and equipment for department and patient care areas. Applies theoretical knowledge to care of neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with other members of the healthcare team by demonstrating competence in respiratory skills, problem solving, and critical thinking that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
