Role overview and purpose
The Oral Surgeon or Exodontist works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare (NHC) by providing outpatient oral surgery services to patients (treating conditions, defects, and injuries of the mouth, gums, teeth, jaw).
This role will perform more complex tooth extraction procedures which may even include removing impacted teeth.
This role may also perform biopsy and tumor or cyst removal of the jaw and mouth.
These procedures are based on in-house dental diagnostic assessments/consults and corresponding/appropriate treatment plans.
In addition, this role will include appropriate follow-up care, impart health education information (including risks, benefits, alternatives), share relevant techniques with patients, as well as advising patients on post-surgery dental care, and prescribing suitable pain-relief medication.

Conducts, develops, and/or confirms suitable individualized in-house oral surgery diagnosis and care plan based on dental conditions
Reviewing patients' medical history and discussing their symptoms and concerns
Utilizing dental instruments and appropriate imaging to determine the cause of patients' pain and discomfort
Provides appropriate oral surgery services, in compliance with standard of care
Perform more complex tooth extraction procedures which may even include removing impacted teeth
Perform biopsy and tumor or cyst removal of the jaw and mouth
Ridge preservation techniques (to be determined)
Administer anesthesia services as appropriate
Appropriate follow-up care
Performs dental procedures and services that are within the approved skills profile and/or scope of practice
Observes, assesses, and records patients’ symptoms, reactions, and treatment progress
Prescribes medications and provides patients with pertinent medication instructions, as needed
Reasonably accepting of additional patients into the schedule, as feasible
Accommodates patients with urgent dental needs, including walk-ins, as feasible
Creating and maintaining a professional appearance
Team Support
Lead your team, dental assistants, hygienists, and other staff members to ensure smooth patient care and treatment coordination
Works with dental team to facilitate prescription refills and paperwork completion
Provides dental backup to NHC dental sites and clinicians, as needed and available
Provides supervision, consultations, instructions to Dental Assistants and other health care delivery team members in NHC dental sites, as needed
Serves as preceptor to dental and paraprofessional students placed with NHC
Participates in Morning Huddles
Clinical Administration
Minimizes rescheduling of patients; provides instructions if necessary
Completes and submits daily billing to reflect accurate coding and charges of all services rendered
Works with management on improving efficiency, patient flow, program development, and revenues
Maintains necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements
Assists management with employee evaluations for the Dental PSRs or Dental Assistants or others, as needed
Participates in audits, peer reviews, patient satisfactions, protocol developments, meetings, and in-servicing trainings as available and appropriate
Contributes to the success of NHC by participating in quality improvement activities
Completes legible and legally defensible dental records
Education/Experience
Doctorate degree in Dental Medicine (DMD) or Dental Surgery (DDS) from an accredited school - required
Certificate from an accredited post-doctoral US Oral Surgery Residency Program – required for oral surgeons
Proven experience working as an Oral Surgeon or Exodontist - prefer a minimum 2 years of experience as a dental specialist
Valid CA Dental License - required
Valid DEA license required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) /CPR/AED certification - required
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Good hand-eye condition
A patient and empathetic disposition
Bilingual (English/Spanish) - preferred

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing, and proofreading skills
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Knowledgeable about and experience with principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgery
Knowledgeable about and experience with dental terminology and dental science
Knowledgeable about and experience with theories, methods, and procedures for the prevention of dental diseases and the required corrective treatment
Knowledgeable of current principles, method, and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment Knowledge of ethical, and legal standards for the delivery of dental care
Knowledgeable of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides and ability to prescribe dosage and instruct patients in correct usage
Ability to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients
Ability to provides hands-on dental care in a variety of settings while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility, and responsiveness
Ability to perform in high volume and emergency situations
Knowledge of community-based dental environment
Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards
Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Pay Ranges
$120.09-$204.47/hr., per hour, depending on experience and other qualifications.
