This role involves providing quality, inclusive, patient-centered healthcare by collecting, registering, and processing laboratory specimens using various techniques and adhering to strict identification protocols across multiple settings. The incumbent also oversees all aspects of Phlebotomy Staff training, including development, orientation, competency assessment, and coordinating retraining when errors occur.
Candidates must possess a minimum of 2 years of Phlebotomy experience and hold a Phlebotomy certification or equivalent upon hire, with an Associate's degree preferred or equivalent education/experience combination. Required abilities include excellent communication and computer skills, professional discretion, and the flexibility to work rotations, weekends, and holidays.
Provides quality and inclusive patient centered healthcare. Oversees all aspects of Phlebotomy Staff training. Provide technical expertise and enhance the growth of the department through areas of staff development and training personnel in day- to-day operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Collects, registers, and processes patient laboratory specimens using a variety of collection techniques, protocols, and computer systems. Follows rigorous patient identification protocols for all ages and levels of complexity. Services patients and performs home draws at any assigned location, including Patient Service Centers, Clinics, and Nursing Homes. Trains new staff and coordinates other necessary training, including program maintenance and development, orientation, and direction of in-house trainers. Evaluates training progress and assesses staff competency. Documents and reports competency to meet regulatory requirements. Coordinates the retraining of current staff when ongoing errors are identified. Coordinates ongoing staff training and development. Participates in maintaining the department in technical readiness to meet the regulatory compliance standards for New York State, CAP, and any other regulatory agency inspecting the clinical laboratory. Ensures staff follow laboratory policies and procedures, including safety and security. Works with supervisor(s) and other laboratory staff to plan for and accomplish departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Promotes and supports a positive team environment within the laboratory. Continuously assesses work processes and suggests improved work methods and ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems. Evaluates and implements new techniques and procedures that may be considered for process change. Other duties as assigned.
