The genetic counselor provides counseling and genetic assessment services to patients with personal or family history of genetic disorders. They obtain medical histories, analyze pedigrees, determine the appropriateness of genetic testing, and provide care plans and psychosocial support.
A Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program is required, along with eligibility for Board Certification. Excellent communication and critical thinking skills are necessary for this role.
