Responsible for providing nursing care to service recipients, including administering medications and treatments as prescribed. Maintains electronic health records and coordinates with physicians and clinical staff to manage patient care.
Must hold a current, un-encumbered RN or LPN license in the state of Tennessee and be a graduate of an approved nursing school. Preference is given to candidates with at least six months of experience in mental health nursing.
Must be a graduate of a state approved school of vocational/practical or professional nursing.
Prefer at least six months nursing experience in mental health.
The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Nursing policies and procedures; administration of medication, possible side effects, and treatment as prescribed; federal, state and local laws and regulations relating to member’s care; comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices; physical, psychological, social and medical needs of member. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Responsible for nursing care of service recipients of GMHC. 2. Recognize significant changes in conditions of service recipients of GMHC. 3. Prepare and administer medications. Prepare and administer prescribed treatments as ordered by the physician/NP. 4. Maintain and complete service recipient electronic health record including but not limited to: AIMS, BMI, labs, drug screens, assessments, chart medications, treatment procedures and all other documentation as required. 5. Verify inventory of drugs covered by Controlled Substances Act of 1970. 6. Consult with Nursing Supervisor, Nurse Practitioner, and administrative supervisor when necessary. 7. Assist in interpreting goals and objectives to GMHC clinical staff. 8. Administer parenteral, intramuscular and sub-cutaneous injections as ordered by physician/NP. 9. Administer physical and PPD injections to employees of GMHC upon hire and updated yearly as needed. 10. Personally receive or place calls with the physician/NP. 11. Communicate orders from physician/NP to Pharmacy and with service recipients of GMHC. Review medications from pharmacy. 12. Be sensitive to service recipient families and respond in an appropriate professional manner. 13. Assist in Treatment Team decisions involved in admissions and discharges of service recipients of GMHC. 14. Develop and maintain member’s lab and injection schedules as ordered by physician/NP. 15. Maintain and order samples, injection medications, supplies, and organize work areas. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Stands and walks most of the working day. WORKING AREA AND ENVIRONMENT: Must have a genuine interest in working with mentally ill persons. Must possess a willingness to conform to unusual situations.
