The Ophthalmic Assistant supports physicians by preparing patients for exams, obtaining medical histories, and performing basic ophthalmic tests. They are also responsible for coordinating diagnostic tests, managing prescription refills, and maintaining clean exam rooms.
Requires a High School Diploma and at least 2 years of experience in an ophthalmology office. Candidates must have or obtain COA certification within one year and hold a current BLS certification.

The Ophthalmic Assistant will support physicians by assisting with patient care and preparing patients for exams and diagnostic procedures under direct supervision. Position Key Accountabilities: Prepares patients for the physician's examination by obtaining vital information such as the chief complaint, basic medical/surgical history, family history, medication list, and allergies. Assists in performing routine, basic ophthalmic tests as directed by the physician (e.g., visual acuity). Assists with the coordination of diagnostic tests, minor in-office procedures, and patient follow-up as directed. Supports prescription refill processes and prior authorization requests under physician supervision. Answers patient phone calls and questions within the scope of knowledge; escalates as needed. Set up and maintain clean, well-stocked exam rooms; ensure equipment and instruments are in working order. May assist with in-office surgical procedures under direct supervision. Performs other duties as assigned.
