Provides direct patient care and administrative support within the Otolaryngology department, including chart preparation and surgical coordination. Manages patient communications, medication authorizations, and maintains medical supply inventory.
Requires RMA or CMA certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days) and current BLS training. Preferred candidates have experience in an ambulatory clinic setting and strong multi-tasking abilities.
Overview This is a fulltime position for a Medical Assistant with the department of Otolaryngology. Under direct supervision, this position will assist with clinical assignments and administrative duties for assigned care teams within the department
Chart preparations- i.e.: reviews the last clinic note, gathers test results and other pertinent data relevant to visit, loads images, documents recent surgeries, scanning, filing, recording of patient information, surgical packet preparation i.e.: pre/postoperative care instructions and education per department protocol Responsible for direct patient care and treatment. Also responsible for timely communication of patient needs and requests by providing appropriate follow-up for patients i.e.: medical imaging requests, cardiac or medical clearance, medication and prior authorizations, scheduling of patient appointments, transmission of laboratory orders, completion of FMLA and other disability documents Completes delegated tasks from the current and prior day i.e.: patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health agency requests, medication prior authorizations, patient forms, and physician follow-up. All tasks must be reviewed, addressed, and marked appropriately before the close of each business day. Coordinates services with specialists i.e.: radiation oncology, pulmonology, endocrinology, nutritional counseling, or social services consultation. Documents all correspondence and interventions in the electronic health record. Assists supervisors in the training of new staff members. Maintains inventory of medical and office supplies and submits reorder requests to the office manager or appropriate staff member. Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains used instrumentation per department protocol. Facilitates scheduling of surgeries with surgery scheduler.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills: Certification as a Medical Assistant such an RMA or CMA is required, or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire. Completion of BLS training and recertification every 2 years The candidate shall be detail oriented, self-motivated, and possess excellent time management and interpersonal skills. The candidate shall possess strong leadership skills. The candidate will be able to overcome obstacles through problem solving. The candidate shall be able to show empathy and understanding for patients and colleagues.
