OVERVIEW Under the supervision of a registered radiologic technologist, assists in the performance of imaging exams, transports patients, and performs clerical duties as assigned. Escorts or transports patients within hospital or other medical facility.

Location: Javon Bea Hospital - Rockford, IL ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in the performance of imaging procedures. Performs patient reception, PACS and transport duties. Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available to the technologist and radiologist. Assists in preparing and positioning the patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety. Assists in the selects and operation of imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessories to successfully perform procedures. Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Immobilizes patient as required for examination. Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patient during procedures. Initiates basic life support when necessary. Assists in determining radiographic technique and exposure factors. Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control. Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation. Observes and follows all universal precautions and infection control techniques. Uses patient identifiers Assists in reception by answering phones, greeting, and register patients for imaging exams. Preparing images to be sent to other facilities. Importing CD and VPN images into PACS. Applies principles of patient safety during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients. Utilities appropriate scripting, barriers, and patient identifiers. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Current enrollment in an accredited School of Radiologic Technology Six months experience as a radiography student required CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days of hire OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skill To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software, Order processing system, and Word processing LEVEL OF SUPERVISION Some independent judgment is required.
