The CSFA provides hands-on assistance to surgeons by performing tasks such as suturing, clamping, and positioning patients during operations. Additionally, they manage surgical equipment, monitor supply inventory, and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols.
Candidates must have a high school diploma, CSFA certification, and 3-5 years of OR experience. BLS certification is required within 14 days of hire, and ACLS must be obtained within 6 months.
The Certified Surgical First Assist works closely with the the surgeon in a hands-on capacity, assisting the surgeon by performing vital tasks such as prepping the patient for surgery, preparing surgical equipment, passing instruments, providing suturing, clamping, removing scar tissue, holding open incisions, dressing wounds and positioning patient during surgery to ensure a safe operation. The first assist is also responsible for helping to prepare the patient for surgery, transporting patients, monitoring the inventory of supplies, assisting with OR turnovers, and maintaining safety protocols during the surgery. May perform other duties or procedure deemed necessary and directed by the surgeon or Anesthesiologist.
A high school diploma. Associate's degree preferred. Certified Surgical Assistant (CSFA) certification BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care. ACLS is required within 6 months of hire. Three to five years of OR experience.
